Manual MacOS Setup Instructions

Please follow these steps to help your computer identify the math keyboard and enable Unicode Hex Input if the Mac Installer in blocked by your administrator, or you prefer to do it yourself.

1. Plug in the keyboard using a female USB-A to male USB-C connector.
2. Press the corresponding button on the back of the keyboard for Mac twice
3. Next, help your Mac identify the keyboard:
-
The Keyboard Setup Assistant will appear on the screen. Push “Continue” on the bottom right corner of the screen.
-
"Identifying Your Keyboard" will then appear and request that you push the key to the right of the shift key. This corresponds to the “z” key on a standard keyboard so please “z” on the Arithmetype keyboard. Next, you will be asked to push the key to the left of the shift key. This corresponds to "/", so please press "/".
-
Confirm this in an ANSI QWERTY keyboard? Select "yes"
4. Enable the Unicode Hex input method:
-
Go to Settings--> Keyboard--> Input Sources--> Click “+” at the bottom left
-
Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select “others”
-
Unicode Hex Input will appear on the right. Click “add” on the bottom right.
-
To enable that keyboard format as the default, check the box for “Show input menu in menu bar”. This adds a keyboard switcher to the top menu bar.
-
From the menu at the top of the screen, click on the flag icon and now select “Unicode Hex Input”. A symbol with U+ will now be displayed instead of the flag.
